A materials engineer by training, I was first enticed by coconut-fiber way back in 2013 after I moved back home to sri lanka from the US.
It took me 10 years of searching to realize a simple fact, my true fulfillment comes from aligning my life in pursuit of a larger (maybe even impossible) mission. The mission I picked is to reimagine coconut-fiber and get the whole world excited about it! The step by step journey to achieve my mission in life is what's truly fulfilling for me.
It was 2018 when I finally came up with the simple idea to use coconut-fiber to create a pair of sandals. After many Youtube videos and lots of trial and error later, I created my first prototype and with it, sebastco. I sold my sandals extremely well for 3 weekends at Good Market in Sri Lanka before covid shut me down.
The next couple years turned out to be the most difficult - many covid shutdowns, revolutions and political upheaval, brought Sri Lanka to her knees. I could not give up my mission in life and had no choice but to persevere. Every ounce of my creativity was used to find a path through all of this and the result was a series of new and exciting possibilities for coconut-fibre!
Today, we are more than just me and my mission is now our mission at sebastco. I hope sebastco can inspire you to embark on your fulfilling journey. My life has taught me that it is not the destination but the journey that will be truly fulfilling!
